What Do Students Do in Room B5?
I believe all students want to be and can be successful. I take pride in creating an atmosphere where each student feels recognized and confident to try new things and take risks. We do many partner and group projects, so it is important for my students to communicate well with each other. We speak to each other with respect and kindness. Our class motto is BE KIND and WORK HARD.
DO YOU HAVE REWARDS OR CONSEQUENCES FOR BEHAVIOR?
I definitely offer rewards and provide incentives for students to behave safely, respectfully, and responsibly. I consistently recognize individuals and groups of students who display these behaviors. I also recognize students who take risks, put in effort, and are honest. I expect my students to work hard on assignments as well as their character. Acknowledging students who are examples of the expected behavior is a regular event in my class room.
I use a class economy system. Each student has a class job and earns a monthy salary. In addition to their salary students also earn money for treating eachother with kindness and doing well on tests and quizes. Students can be "ticketed" and fined for non preferred behaviors like, dishonesty or missing work. All students pay "rent" for their desk every month and with any leftover money they participate in a class auction and buy items! Some students decide to save their money so they can "buy" their desk! This is a very true to life economic system that the students in B5 are thrilled to be a part of!
If students are struggling academically or behaviorally, I work closely with families to help thier child get back on track to achieve success.
